Scream (1996)

I thought that the opening sequence of scream was very effective and it has you on the edge of your seat as you cant wait to find out wha'ts going to happen in the rest of the film. I though the use of sound was very good, especially the establishing shot of the house and swing, it had me thinking the killer was on the swing.
Also the fact that it got straight to the plot made a big difference because you felt like you were involved in the film and your not expecting the killer on the phone. I think if we used more non diegetic sounds in our film it would of created more tension. The close up shots of the young girls face really showed the emotion which also plays a big part in the film as you emphasise with her. Prank phone calls are something that nearly everybody experiences or perhaps even takes part in them and so creating something extraordinary out of an ordinary situation makes the audience think could this happen to them. Also because the actors are young they fit in well with the intended audience. You hear and see the story from the killers point of view and are made to feel sorry for the young girl.
