How we tried to create an effect.

The main purpose of a thriller is to create fear and suspense in the audience. It is not a horror, so fear is not the main emotion trying to be created, but creating a certain tension and uncertainty in the audience is key. When filming we used a few special effects to create this effect in the audience. An example of this is when we have a shot of the victim running down the stairs in haste, we used the special effect of slowmotion in this to create a sense of uncertainty in the audience of what was going to happen next.

The music we used on that scene also added to the tension, strings is a perfect sound to use when trying to create fear or tension and we made a crash in the music occur directly as the victim turned round to face the camera with an expression of fear which makes the audince fear for her safety which adds to the threat of the killer in this sequence.

When looking at how we could create suspense we took the lighting into great consideration. Obviously a darker lighting would make the scenes looks more eery however this was not possible and nothing would be visable as we did not have the appropiate lighting equitment to make the scene dark enough to create an effect, but light enough so that the audience would be able to see what was actually going on.
